  • Born Sydney 1946, Sydney Girls High then Lyneham High ACT.
  • Studied Indonesian, Malay, Arabic, Southeast Asian History in Faculty of Asian Studies, ANU 1964-67.
  • PhD at Monash University supervised by Prof C. Skinner and Dr L. Brakel, 1968-71.
  • Two children born 1972, 1974.
  • Research Asst to Prof Jamie Mackie founding head of Dept of Pol & Soc Change 1978-1980,
  • Res Fellow RSPac 1980-82; f/t lecturer in Indonesian, Fac of Asian Studies 1982;
  • Professor of Indonesian and Malay 1998 until retirement in 2007.
  • Visiting Fellow in Dept of Pol & Soc Change, CAP 2008 to present.
