Achieving Indonesia Emas: Prabowo’s Impact - Prabowo began his presidency with the claim that Indonesia is entering a golden era. He boasted high approval ratings, and planned to raise economic growth to propel Indonesia into one of the world’s biggest economies. But during his first 100 days as president, concerns have risen about growing military presence in civic life, misguided economic policies, and expanding repression - including in the education sector. Prime Minister Albanese has recognised the importance of the bilateral relationship by making Indonesia his first international visit at the start of his second term of government. How can Australia partner with, and promote, Indonesia as a major economic power in the region, while also supporting democracy in Indonesia and the region more broadly?
