Roundtable on Indonesia’s 2024 Elections

In just a few weeks, Indonesians will go to the polls to elect a new president and to choose their legislative representatives. In this special roundtable event, ANU experts will discuss the most pressing issues and address the most critical questions surrounding these elections—for example, how did Prabowo establish such a clear lead in the polls? Are these elections as free and fair as those that have come before? How much influence can President Jokowi have over government once he steps down? And what would a President Prabowo mean for Indonesia’s democracy, economy, and its foreign relations? Join us for an interactive and engaging roundtable discussion.

PANEL PRESENTERS:

Greg Fealy is an Emeritus Professor at ANU. He is a scholar of Indonesian politics and history, who specialises in Islam. He has written extensively on the politics and culture of major Islamic parties and organisations such as Nahdlatul Ulama, PKS and Hizbut Tahrir, as well as jihadist groups.

Navhat (Nava) Nuraniyah is a PhD scholar at the Department of Political and Social Change, ANU. Her research focuses on how Islamist opposition movements respond to political repression in Indonesia.

Fakhridho Susrahadiansyah Bagus Pratama Susilo ( Fakhridho Susilo) is a research associate of KiPHRAH. He holds a PhD in Policy and Governance from the Crawford School of Public Policy, the Australian National University. He is the recipient of the 2022-2023 Fox International Fellowship at Yale University, Macmillan Center for International and Area Studies.

Eve Warburton is a senior lecturer at the Department of Political and Social Change in the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs. She is also Director of the ANU Indonesia Institute.
