The ANU Indonesia Institute Visiting Scholars Program facilitates scholars at Indonesian universities, with funding from their home institution, to visit the College of Asia and the Pacific (CAP) for a minimum of one and a maximum of three months. During their stay, scholars will work with an academic mentor on a specific project or publication and participate in campus activities relevant to their area of research.

Funding and support

The program is financed through visiting scholars’ home institutions in Indonesia. CAP will provide visiting scholars with administrative support, office space, use of a computer, and ANU library access. The Indonesia Institute will assist visiting scholars by orienting them to CAP, connecting them to relevant events on campus and, where possible, organising a public forum in which to present their work.

Scholars will be partnered with an academic mentor at CAP. The mentor’s role is to provide feedback on the scholar’s nominated project over the course of their visit to ANU, and to attend one public forum where the scholar will present their research.

Application process

To be considered, applicants should email the attached form to indonesia.institute@anu.edu.au, along with the following information:

  1. Evidence of sufficient funding for the period of the proposed visit to ANU. Attach to your email a letter from your Dean which outlines the amount of government or university funds that will be made available for the proposed duration of the scholarship.
  2. If a CAP scholar as already agreed to play the role of mentor, please attach a brief supporting letter/email from the mentor.
  3. Applicants should indicate on the form if they are yet to have organised a mentor. The Director of the Indonesia Institute will liaise with potential mentors on behalf of the applicant. To ensure quality control, the Board of the Indonesia Institute will assist in a vetting process, so that only strong applications are sent to potential mentors.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
