Professor Edward Aspinall, Director, ANU Indonesia Institute

Edward Aspinall is a specialist in the politics of Indonesia. His interest in Indonesia began when he lived in Malang, East Java, as a teenager. After studying Indonesian language and politics at high school and university, he completed his PhD at the ANU in 2000 on the fall of the Suharto regime. Since then he has written or edited a dozen books on Indonesian democratisation, civil society, ethnic politics and related topics. His current research interests include ‘money politics’ and public goods across Southeast Asia.
